Call for Volunteers & FOLL Public Meeting 4 November

This is a call for nominations for candidates to serve on the Board of the Friends of the Leland Library for the Year 2011.

This all volunteer board is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Corresponding Secretary
  • Book Sale Chairman
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Publicity Officer

We are inviting you to share your time and expertise with the FOLL and the Community it serves.  Each position is open for nominations for persons to serve the coming year.

The slate will be presented and voted on at the November 4 Annual Meeting - General Membership of The Friends of The Leland Library (FOLL)
Nominations will be taken from the floor at that time, if needed.

The FOLL General Meeting is scheduled to start promptly at 7pm on November 4th at the Best Western, Leland - Meeting in the "Boardroom" to the left off the main lobby.  Coffee and Water will be served.

*********************************  FOLL Board Brief Position Descriptions

While each position may demand more or less time from each individual, one can expect to commit to at least four, one-hour Board meetings a year, two General Membership Meetings of about two-hours each, plus committee and individual work needed to fulfill the duties of their respective office (plan about 2 to 5 hours a week maximum).

  • President - Responsible to overall management and direction of the FOLL's activities.  The President has signing authority to commit the FOLL to obligations and activities in support of our mission to the Leland Public Library.

  • Vice-President - to serve in the absence of, in as replacement of the President should that person not be able to fulfill their responsibilities.

  • Secretary - Responsible for capture and accurate recording of FOLL meetings and formal activities of the FOLL and its Board.

  • Treasurer - Accounting, book-keeping, tax-reporting and management of all financial activities of the FOLL.  Reports to the Board and is responsible for an annual audit of the books.

  • Corresponding Secretary - Responsible for collection, and management of membership information including issuing notices for renewal.  Responsible for accurate maintenance of address and email distribution lists for active FOLL membership. Acts as the focal point for out-going communications to the membership from the Board.

  • Volunteer Coordinator - Responsible for identifying persons willing and able to assist in supporting the FOLL at both the FOLL's Magnolia House and in the Leland Library.  Coordinates schedules, workload, responsibilities, and motivation of all FOLL Volunteers.  Works in coordination with the Leland Library Staff and the FOLL Book Sale Manager.

  • Publicity Officer - Responsible for maintaining interest and awareness of the FOLL its activities, and goals for supporting Leland Public Library.  Acts as official spokesperson for the FOLL when necessary in coordination with the Board.  Responsible for activity engaging the at-large community via all media channels; mail, online (Twitter, Facebook, email, the FOLL Blog, Buzz, and other appropriate means).  Responsible for generating and distributing News Releases about major FOLL events and activities to regional news and publicity organizations by the most effective, timely, means possible. Must be internet savvy.
  • Book Sale Chairman - Responsible for organizing monthly FOLL Book Sales (currently being held at The Magnolia House).  Works in coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator to have volunteers to fully staff the monthly book sales.  Responsible for organizing, gathering and maintaining all book donations as received.
